Network Alert: 2nd May 2024
20:20 WST: Power issues appear to be affecting Rottnest Island as communications from the primary link is down. The mainland link remains active and will connect again when it comes back online. Support staff will monitor the situation but if an Island visit is required this can only occur from the first ferry visit tomorrow.
21:00 WST: Support has been unable to contact after hours on Rottnest Island. We will continue to try and get an update on what might be causing the issues.
3rd May 5:30 WST: Support teams are still waiting to arrive at Rottnest Island on the first available ferry.
3rd May 8:30 WST: Our engineering team has arrived on Rottnest Island and fault identification will commence shortly.
3rd May 8:45 WST: Services have been restored. A further update on the cause will be provided once the on-site engineers have finished the restoration work.
3rd May 9:00 WST: The root cause of the issues was a number of key components have blown up, as in power supplies and switch equipment in the main communications cabinet. These have now all been replaced and primarily services have been restored. There are secondary sites that have not come up such as Longreach and these will be checked as well. We suspect either a major power brown out or more likely a lightning strike on the main tower.
